GASKET

Gasket
Project Overview
When: 9/9/2024 - 9/18/2024
Where: Boston University
A gasket is a mechanical seal that fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, preventing leakage from fluids or gases.

Features
Accuracy:
The gasket was measured and created with an accuracy within 0.005'' of the original mating surface.
CNC Milled:
Design was CNC milled from a 1/16'' stock.
Material:
White PVC
Quick Production:
The time to cut was 50 sec.
Size:
Dimensions: 2.752 x 2.498 x 0.0625 in
Creation
Measurement:
An analog caliper was used to measure the dimensions of the desired part. Pins were placed into the holes to determine the distance from the edge, and the center of the holes were determined by the sum of the radius of the pin and the distance from the edge.
3D Model:
The sketch was created in SolidWorks, and GibbsCAM was used to create the G-Code.
Machining:
The gasket was machined using a CNC Mill programmed by the G-Code. The PVC was clean using alcohol and taped to the CNC.
